THE OWNERS of Hustlers, the Cinderford club which shut suddenly last week, hope to offer compensation to people and organisations who had booked the venue for functions which they will not now be able to hold.

XS Leisure say they will refurbish the premises and reopen it at a later date at which stage they hope to offer some compensation

Hustlers closed suddenly after the management became concerned "about the use of the premises by a small minority for purposes which were unacceptable and incompatible with both our ownership and licensing ..."

A spokesperson later told the Review they had no confirmed evidence of drug dealing or taking but had acted on very strong hearsay.

Special projects manager Kathy Hurst said around nine staff had lost jobs.

"They have been absolutely wonderful and very supportive. We hope that when the refurbishment is completed we will be able to re-employ them," she said.

Ms Hurst said the company had consulted the police who had been "tremendously supportive".

A statement said that while the closure would be a shock to customers it was felt strongly that Hustlers needed to be a safe and comfortable environment for all its patrons and not just a small minority.

The company owns the freehold on the property and special security arrangements have been made to safeguard the premises while the refurbishment plans are finalised.
