A 1920s SAFE weighing at least 70kg (154lbs) was stolen from an Elton business last Wednesday night (December 17).
Owners Paul and Ursula Deighton, of Farm and Country Agricultural Supplies, said since the burglary they have stepped up security after thieves cut the chain on the main gate and smashed a window into the building.
Ursula said: "The thief knew what they were after – they would have had a hell of a job removing the safe as it weighs between 70 and 100kg. It doesn't appear like anything else was touched.
"I doubt they will even be able to get into the safe but we've still had to cancel our bank details. The worse thing is potentially knowing who did it, it's now business as usual and we've stepped up security.
"We reckon they broke in between 10pm and 11pm – we didn't believe it could happen as we've been here for nine years. We've had some nice messages from people and the staff at Newnham Post Office sent us some flowers. We'll get through it."
