CHEPSTOW fabric engineers Architen Landrell are hoping to raise at least £1,200 for the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA).

The company has 125 water containers which were used on what the firm is only allowed to describe as a "prestige project in London" and are now surplus to requirements.

The 210-litre containers were filled with water and were used as ballast on the structure it was building.

A sale of the containers is planned for next Saturday (May 12) at the company headquarters on the Station Road industrial estate in Chepstow.

Vicky McKenzie, marketing co-ordinator for Architen Landrell and a crew member with the rescue group, said: "We have 125 containers coming back from a prestige project in London which we don't need.

"They would make excellent water butts for gardens and so we came up with the idea of selling them off to raise money for SARA, which is our charity of the year.

"We would be looking for a minimum donation of £5 and if we can sell them all we could make a sizeable donation to SARA."

All the money needed to keep its rescue boats on the water comes from voluntary donations, added Victoria who became a crew member in 2008 after her cousin was rescued by SARA after getting stuck in mud while fishing.

Another member of staff at Architen Landrell who is a SARA crew member is David Harley who is a junior designer.

He said: "The company is very supportive of what we do. If we get a call we can go."

The sale takes place between 11am and 2pm on Saturday but the containers can be reserved by calling Vicky on 01291 638200.
