TO all residents of the parish of Awre,
The parish council has asked me to coordinate the preparation of a Community Emergency Plan for adoption by the parish. Whilst emergencies don't really happen that frequently, when they do, the impact can be very serious. Most emergencies affecting communities will be dealt with by the emergency services and/or the county and district councils, but, if there is a delay in their arrival, or the scale of the situation means their provision is stretched, then we want to ensure our community has a plan in place. That way, we can organise things to respond quickly and effectively and help the emergency services as needed.
We have now set up a Community Response Group to write the Emergency Plan and are in the process of establishing where emergencies – of any or all types – could affect us. This includes considering which emergencies are more likely, and the resources we have available to deal with them. A key resource is of course the help that residents and people who work here can offer.
We are looking for good neighbours who are willing to help those who are less able to help themselves. You may have specific skills we can use, or you might be able to offer help either during or after the event to get things back on the road to recovery. You may be able to offer shelter, make refreshments or check on vulnerable neighbours. If you think you can help your community then please contact me on:
uk; write to me at Oakfield, Broadoak, Newnham, GL14 1JB; or call me on: 01594517191 or 07950681650 and I will send you a questionnaire that you can complete and return to me either by post or on-line.
Please keep an eye on the Parish Pump to find out how things are getting on.
Dr Alison M Amos, on behalf of the
Community Response Group.
