I AM very concerned about the recent change in road markings on the A40 just after the Highnam roundabout for traffic travelling east to Gloucester.
Having waited about a month to assess the issue on a daily basis as I commute to work from the Forest of Dean I have grown increasingly anxious about the danger this change in lay-out now presents to eastwards travelling traffic.
For a very short length of the road there are two lanes that suddenly, and for no apparent reason, merge into one. It is this merging that is inevitably a danger and causing the tail-back I have experienced frequently in the mornings.
I cannot fathom that this is the sensible solution for just a few residents of one house. Highnam Court Lodge has a wide front garden, recently re-grassed by the bypass changes and this would easily provide a wide and visible access for those needing to join the A40.
After the massive loss of time, energy and 'will to live' endured by thousands of commuters like myself during the roadworks for over six months last year I think it is time someone from the Highways Department looked again at this inadequate solution at the expense of thousands of hardworking travellers.
It beggars belief that time, money and resources are spent like this with apparently no consultation. – Sara Rickard, Upper Road, Pillowell.
