I WAS appalled at the Forest council's decision to cut the pensioners' bus tokens. This is the second time recently the council has hit the elderly – last time it was 15 jobs at Link–line.

These are the most vulnerable people in our society.

I also note the value of the £25 bus token has not increased for several years. The elderly use these on Dial-a-Ride to get them door-to-door to doctors and shops. The bus company does not provide this service. Any shopping is carried to the door for them and they are helped in and out. Again, this service is not provided by a local bus company.

Perhaps these councillors could make cutbacks in their own expenses and salaries. The public also notes the money provided for the recent refurbishment of their offices. They found our money for that – yet again a needless, waste of money.

It's about time the council stopped wasting money and started to use it on things that matter most – their own tax payers! Let's see them start to earn their wages by being decent and honest and working to do their best for the public who are paying their wages. They should be looking after our health and welfare instead of their own.
