I NOTE comments by one or two of our district councillors which leave a lot to be desired, especially on flood problem areas. If the selected or appointed councillors to the planning committee knew the areas on which they are voting, construction permission would not have been granted.
I have heard it is the law that each county must provide a certain amount of homes, but it says nothing about infrastructure. Here in the Forest we cannot maintain what we have. Contractors have been brought in with the sole intention of causing as much disruption as possible. Does one not think of construction at Angel Farm in Coleford, i.e. more houses, will not add to the flooding problems at Newland? And there is already an annual problem with drinking water. Where are these people going to find employment, what schools, dentists, doctors?
We can add to Angel Farm, Highfield, Lydney or Lakeside, where the flooding occurred. With all these developments will come more elderly and there is already a massive shortage of good standard care homes and I speak from personal experience. If one asks logical questions one never gets a logical answer.
There are thousands of minor offences committed right here in the Forest, one favourite punishment is community service, so we have the consistent double whammy. The public have to pay the exorbitant police wages and pensions, then we have to pay the people picking the litter on our roadsides which doesn't seem to be a bad little contract judging by the new 4x4 pickups I see, so why not use the many offenders of various crimes in our Forest to do the litter picking as a way of getting our council tax back, or are we too busy singing and cooing to the EEC? – Mike Meredith-Edwards, Sling, Coleford.
