CINDERFORD's British Legion branch has been awarded the distinction of becoming the Distinguished Cinderford Branch of the Royal British Legion.

The town is only the second in Britain to be awarded the honour – the first was Startford on Avon in November 1997.

Some 30 branch and group members together with ladies from the women's section and two standard-bearers joined town mayor Bill Reed and town councillors at the Council Chambers for the branch president to be presented with the honorific designation.
