I AM writing in response to Daphne Pearson's letter about Mark Harper and point out to her that he is merely doing what several of his constituents (who live in areas that have NP16 postcodes) have asked him to do and that is help us getting funding from the Welsh Assembly to continue to pay for our treatments/operations in English hospitals.
His evidence is based on the experience of me and others. I am not aware he has first hand experience and I would not wish that on anyone.
I am currently waiting for an operation at Southmead Hospital, Bristol but have been told it won't be funded so I will just have to suffer. Others I know have had treatment stopped. It is pathetic! Yes there are hospitals in Wales but we live in England and therefore have a choice.
My choice actually originates from being given the incorrect treatment by a Welsh hospital which has left me with several medical problems that I have to live with.
I can't claim negligence as it isn't a simple case, I had a rare illness that they had never dealt with and therefore 'did what they thought best!'
They also misdiagnosed a symptom I developed from surgery as panic attacks when I was actually at high risk of having a stroke.
Now I am left with problems that mean I can no longer care for my family or go to work...which then leads to the benefits system and horrific dealings with ATOS which again I turned to Mark Harper and it got sorted...for the time being.
I am very pleased that there are patients receiving good care within the Welsh health board, my GP is based in Chepstow and is brilliant but I need to go to Bristol to get ongoing treatment and it should not be up to others in a different country to say that I can or cannot!
Also adding the fact that Ms. Pearson has qualifications really makes no difference I don't think the medical system has a pecking order for those with doctorates.
I only have an honours degree maybe that is where I am going wrong?
