I?WAS very interested in the letter from R. B. Shaw headed 'green waste' Review November 4.

I did not realise people did not know the difference between green waste and recycled items. I am in my 70s and have been keen on recycling for more than half my life. I do know the difference. How R. B. Shaw thought that I would be foolish enough to put green waste into the recycling box amazes me.

It also amazes me, with so many people starving throughout the world, that the district council feel it necessary to supply food waste bins. How can anyone afford to throw food away? They need not supply me with one because I do not throw food out except when I prepare food for the wild birds.

I wrote in my original letter that I have four compost bins. I also have a very large garden. What I cannot put into my compost bins will go into bags and either taken to the local 'tip' for disposal or kept ready to put into the compost bins when available, as I used to before the council brought in the green waste collection.

It was a good reminder that people should not put green waste into recyclable bins but I am afraid that the district council will not get a penny from me in fines because I know how to put the items away. I go to the local tip every two or three months. I take plastic, tin-foil, cardboard, textiles and general rubbish. I only put one bin bag out for collection every two weeks and that is mainly due to having two dogs and three cats.

I am not a 'goody goody' just a person who believes in fairness.
