ORGANISERS of an outdoor primary school country dance festival due to be attended by 500 pupils have cancelled tonight’s (Wednesday, June 19) rescheduled event owing to wet weather.
The West Gloucestershire Schools Partnership festival, which stretches back 60 years, was first postponed at the Speech House last Thursday (June 13) because of the rain, and was switched to this evening.
But with the forecast for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the build up to the event, organisers “reluctantly’ called it off amid fears of cars, catering suppliers’ vans, the portaloos and the lorry for the stage getting stuck in the field.
A spokesman said: “Unfortunately as schools break up in a few weeks, there is not the space in the diary to rearrange the date. Hopefully it will be better next year.”
The WGSP is a partnership for the Forest primary schools from Newent down to Tutshill.
