THE mistake that P Young made (Letters, February 28) was to engage UKIP members on their own rancid terms.

Messrs Guyton, Preest and co. (Letters, March 7) peddle the same old line: that migration is a bad thing.

Well, migration goes both ways with benefits to all. If there are no jobs for young people in this country then they have considerable freedom to travel and work abroad, as many do.

That can only be good for them and the countries they visit. This country has always benefitted from migration, some would say unfairly so as a result of our brutal empire creating dependency  by moving large populations around the world in conditions of slavery and indentured labour resulting in displaced ethnic groups for whom we now, quite rightly, have responsibility.

There's always a pool of cheap labour for global capitalism to exploit. Personally, I benefit from dentistry delivered by European dental surgeons. They are well-trained and very good at  their profession. I wonder, though, if they are paid as well as their British counterparts?

What will UKIP  recommend if Scotland votes for independence? Advocate sending all Scots back and banning migration from north of the border?

Without migration we would be a nation of Neanderthals. It's quite possible that UKIP will do well in the coming elections but that does not make them  right. Beware what you wish for.
