I READ with dismay your story about dogs like Staffordshire bull terriers and rotties being abandoned mainly because they are no longer regarded as fashionable.
I am the proud owner of three Staffordshire bull terriers. I thought much the same as many other people about them until a neighbour bought one and that dog changed my mind. It used to sit on my doorstep and wait for me and then spend part of the day and the evening with me until it was called back by its owner.
It was after that I took on a puppy Staffie and, later, two more.
They are the most loving breed of dog you could wish for. They give us so much pleasure and I wouldn't be without them. If I had a bigger garden I would have more.
I would like to win the Lottery and set up my own rescue home for Staffies. They are great with my grandchildren but I still wouldn't leave them alone with them.
Any dog, treated right, will love you in return.
Staffies do need exercise and never seem to tire out when young. Between us they get two walks a day, four days a week, then one rest week. I would definitely say that is you are looking for a dog a Staffie is best choice as they are small, don't moult a lot and will love you unconditionally
If Helen Zuluk wants help walking dogs I will offer at least one day a week.
