AM I missing something? What is the point of independent councillor aligning themselves to another party?

I thought that the whole point of being independent was that you could vote on each individual subject as it arose; perhaps siding with Labour on occasions and on other occasions voting with the Conservatives.

I'm sure I speak for many Foresters who were dismayed at the tactics used by the political parties in the last council and therefore voted for independent candidates. Perhaps some independent councillors could enlighten me and others.
