WHITECROSS School, one of the largest comprehensives in the Forest of Dean, has gone into 'special measures'.

The announcement was made by Ofsted following a report released yesterday.

While the report is said to contain a great deal that is very positive, Ofsted have judged that "Students have not made sufficient progress in their learning based on 2008-2010 date, particularly in English and students who have special education needs. As a result, they have determined that Whitecross requires 'special measures'."

The school has said: "This is a huge disappointment to the staff, students and governors and will cause great concern for parents and carers, all of whom expect that their children will make good progress at school."
