TWO Ross-on-Wye sisters have survived the Dragon’s Den – literally – after impressing the judges on the BBC Two hit show.
Kia and Sky Ballantyne gave a pitch perfect presentation of their Crikey Bikey harness to the five ‘dragons’ and asked in return for £25,000 for a 10 per cent share.
Although they didn’t receive any offers, Touker Suleyman promised the 12 and 14-year-olds to review the product and post it on his Bikesoup website that reaches bicycle shops across the country.
He said: “I will ensure everybody hears about you and your product.”
Sky invented the product as part of a school project at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls. The pair are the youngest-ever Dragons’ Den contestants.
The show aired on Sunday night and saw the pair explain how their harness is designed to help adults teach their children to ride a bicycle without hurting their backs.
Sky said the experience was not as daunting as she expected. “We were in the Den for almost an hour and a half,” she says. “Although the questioning was tense, we both really enjoyed it. I felt really happy when Sarah Willingham said that if her children grew up to be like us then she would be really proud.”
The Review recently reported the girls had set-up the company and secured orders with retail giants Evans Cycles and Mountain Warehouse.
Kia added: “We are glad our pitch went so well on Dragon’s Den – and seeing ourselves on telly was so cool. It has been amazing seeing all the lovely emails and tweets coming through – people are so nice.
“Touker’s offer was amazing for us. He said he is going to email all his independent bike shops on the bikesoup website and recommend they buy some harnesses from us.”
