MORE shennanigins over big cats. Following the Review's story about the alleged sighting of a wildcat in Lydney, a reader writes to say "I too have seen a similar animal".
"I saw a similar animal in that area during the summer although this was during daylight hours at about 5.45pm when it casually crossed Highfield Road to the north just before Kimberley Drive. I was so convinced it was a wildcat that I 'Googled' its appearance to confirm its size and colour."
Meanwhile, Alex Matheson, the Scottish naval rating who reportedly saw the original wildcat in the early hours two weeks ago, while staying at his father-in-law's house in Highfield Road, writes: "I told him I had seen a large 'wild cat' what he did not report clearly was that the cat had a thick silver/grey pelt. I did not actually say it was definitely a Scottish wildcat, in fact it would surprise you to know it was more akin to a Canadian or Eurasian lynx.
"I had a good look at it for about two to three minutes under the security light of the front yard. It is such a beautiful animal and I would hope that it could be protected. Perhaps the 'Lydney Lynx' would be a good name for it."
