BROWNIES and Rainbows were presented with sports equipment by a local Round Table group.

Members of the 1st Chepstow Rainbows and 1st Bulwark Brownies approached the Chepstow Round Table for a contribution towards equipment – but the lads thought it was such a good idea they bought it outright.

A tri-golf starter kit and ‘tag in a bag’ tag rugby set – worth £350 – was presented by Mayor of Chepstow, Cllr Dale Rooke, to the girls at their meeting at Thornwell Football Club and will be used by Guides, Brownies and Rainbows in Chepstow and Caldicot.

Round Table chairman Kevin Jordan said: “We strongly believe in keeping kids in the community active – it was great to see the girls getting to grips with the new equipment and giving some of our chaps a run for their money.”

Chepstow Guides’ sports educator Emma Benyon said: “We are always trying to think of new ways to get our Brownies and Rainbows engaged with sport.

“Introducing them to new games is a fantastic way of getting them engaged in sport. Judging by the fun they had, I think the golf kit and tag rugby equipment are going to very well used.”

Cllr Rooke said: “I was delighted to be able to present the Brownies and Rainbows with the new equipment so generously donated.

“It is really heartening to see different community-based groups in Chepstow working together for the benefit of our children and to see the girls having such fun with the new equipment.”
