A TEAM from a local nursing home completed a three peaks walk to raise money for a piece of specialist equipment to help people with dementia.

Staff and supporters from Castleford Nursing Home in Tutshill did the “three peaks of Abergavenny” and raised around £500.

The money raised by climbing the Skirrid, the Sugarloaf and the Blorenge will go towards the cost of a Tovertafel.

The Dutch-made Tovertafel, which is also known as a ‘dementia’ table helps people who have moderate to severe dementia take part in a range of games that stimulate both physical and social activity.

The were 16 people for the first, and most difficult, challenge which was the Sugarloaf and 12 for the other two hills.

Ben Miller, of Castleford, said: “We walked approximately 14 miles in total and it took us eight hours and 15 minutes

“It was really hard, particularly Sugar Loaf because of how steep it is, but we did it successfully and despite some of us being very sore, we were so proud of ourselves.

“The support we had was amazing – not just from sponsors, we were putting updates on Facebook and people were really encouraging.”
