COLEFORD woman Freya Eklof says buying her first home has been ‘a nightmare’.

Miss Eklof purchased a three-bed house from David Wilson Homes at Oakfield in Blake’s Way, in June and claims she has an ever-growing ‘snag list’.

She said: “I appreciate a snag list is to be expected with a new build. I feel totally ripped off and cheated, and victimised by comparison to other buyers.”

David Wilson Homes say they are in regular talks with Miss Eklof and are addressing the issues.

Miss Eklof claims she discovered in a recent conversation with neighbours that the developers provided them with more than £4,000 of flooring for free. She said the original package she was offered was flooring laid for £4,044, which she declined as she wanted to seek a more competitive price elsewhere. In the meantime her neighbours were told they could have it for free but this wasn’t offered to her.

She said: “We all reserved our homes at the same time, paid the same price of £198,000 and used the Government Help-to-Buy scheme. The difference is after I declined to pay them an extra £4,000 for flooring, my neighbours were offered the same deal for free while I went ahead and paid somebody else. Had I known I wouldn’t have had to pay then I wouldn’t have looked elsewhere.

“When I approached David Wilson Homes about this they didn’t apologise and basically said ‘tough’.

“I was told they couldn’t comment on the incentives other buyers were offered because of data protection. Fortunately the other buyers came forward and are appalled by the situation.”

“The overall finish of the house has, in my opinion, been rushed. I was pleased when I met with the site manager that he said he would address the problems. I have, however, not heard any more about the carpet and flooring situation, and this is the main reason I feel so cheated.”

Carl Haley, managing director David Wilson Homes, said: “As a five star housebuilder we take customer care and the quality of our homes extremely seriously.

“We have been in regular touch with Freya Eklof, since we received her letter on July 27, to remedy the minor defects in her new home and more than 50 per cent of these have now been resolved.”
