JACK Russell will shed his trademark tattered hat at Lydney this Friday when he plays for Mike Smith's Gloucestershire side against a 16-man Forest and Gloucester Invitation team.
The former England wicket-keeper will not be behind the stumps at The Recreation Ground but will instead feature as a bowler in the 50 overs aside match which starts at 12.30pm.
Jack's usual role will go to rising star Stuart Pope, the England under 19's keeper.
The match is one of county pace bowler Mike Smith's benefit events.
Mike, a popular figure in the Forest, is recovering from injury but says he expects to bowl at Lydney.
He has been able to select a strong County Xl featuring many of the stars who have helped the county to become one of the strongest one day sides in the country.
To even things up, the combined Forest and Gloucester side will field 16 players.
Forest and Gloucester XV1: John Watkinson (Alvington and Woolaston), Rob Smart (Arcadians), Paul Rigby (Newnham), Tom Legge (Whitecross School and Lydney), Dave Collins (Old Richians), Ian Marfell (Ruardean Hill), Paul Edwards (Bream), Stuart Wilshaw (Winget), Julian Thomas (capt, Primrose Hill and Bream), Rupert Mitchell (Bream), Martin Symonds (Ruardean Hill), Cliff Boyce, Martin Holford, Terry Morgan, Garrard Withers, James Gomery (all Gladiators).
