A STORE really got the measure of Chepstow vet John McEwan when he called in for the fitting of his Olympic parade uniform and formal wear.

John, who specialises in equestrianism, is just one of a series of Olympic hopefuls who have visited Marks and Spencer in Liverpool recently to be measured up for their uniforms, which have been supplied by M&S.

Designed by British tailor Timothy Everest, the uniforms will be worn by all British athletes at the Olympic opening ceremony on September 15.

"We are delighted to be supporting John in his bid to represent Britain in the Olympics, and are proud that he will be wearing a Marks & Spencer uniform when he represents the country," said Sean Curtis, sponsorship manager.

John, 54, has already attended the Olympics in LA, Soeul, Barcelona and Atlanta, and hopes to be part of a medal-winning team in Sydney this summer.

Athletes have been invited to 11 stores around the country to visit the touring tailoring unit.

The two-hour process for each athlete will give Marks & Spencer all the vital statistics it needs to make sure the British team look like winners from day one.

The designs for the official uniforms are being kept under wraps and will be revealed later in the year.
