THE Forest of Dean branch of the Retired Teachers Association is appealing for more people to join up and enjoy a busy round of social activities.
"We're a very sociable bunch – but the trouble is our membership, though loyal, is getting older – some are in their 80s – and we can't always make the numbers when we go on trips or book a show," said Edna Buchan.
"Any retired teachers, of all grades and no matter where they worked, will be very welcome at our meetings and on our trips. We usually meet once a month in Coleford," she said.
She taught business studies at the former West Gloucestershire Technical College in Cinderford, the forerunner of the Royal Forest of Dean College at Five Acres where she also took lessons before retiring.
A busy social programme is managed by Reg Edwards and his wife Jean – Reg was headmaster of the Boys' School at Lydney and later worked at Whitecross.
"It's a nice association and we have some very good outings. It would be very good to attract some new members and we would make them very welcome," said Jean Edwards.
She and Reg will be celebrating their golden wedding on January 24.
