A YOUNG Portskewett lad has become Junior Welsh 40kg Amateur Boxing Champion after a bout in Bridgend.

Jamie Morley, 12, beat Jerry Conners from St Joseph's Boxing Club in Newport to take the title.

Jamie, a Wyedean student, has been boxing for around two and half years with Chepstow Amateur Boxing Club.

He trains three times a week at the Drill Hall lower Chepstow with head coach Terry Dymock, coach Steve Woods and Doug Lewis.

In preparation for his fight Jamie ran the Old Severn Bridge three times a week as well as training at the club.

"All the hard work paid off as he won the red Welsh Vest and we are all so proud of him," said parents Andy and Marie Morley.
