OPERA singer Karl Daymond is to step down from the musical leadership of Chepstow Male Voice Choir, though he is not breaking his ties.
Karl says he is relinquishing the musical director's role in order to spend more time with Opera Playhouse, the peripatetic opera company which he runs with his business partner.
Demand for their services has increased, which means more time away from home based in Chepstow.
However, Karl says he will be available from time to time and will still be involved with the choir, not only in rehearsal, but also in concerts and competition, when he is in town, and free. He has been musical director for two and a half years, succeeding Brian Howard.
Karl will be succeeded by his deputy, Elaine Matthews, who has been with the choir in that role since 2006.
A specially-commissioned humorous inscribed plate was presented to Karl by choir members, who are presently taking a well-earned rest during August.
