GET fit and healthy is the message from headteacher at Yorkley Primary School to her pupils.
Mrs Kate Burke has been sharing her passion for running with her pupils to further promote a healthy lifestyle. Since joining the Forest of Dean Athletics Club (FODAC) just under a year ago, she has already taken part in several half marathons including the Spring Forest half and the Windsor half marathon.
Linking with the five schools values: perseverance, practice, partnership, pride, patience equals power to achieve, Mrs Burke regularly gets the children to think about healthy living and the impact it then has on their learning.
She said: “Running has always been a passion of mine, not only as a means to stay healthy, but also as a wonderful way to make friends and be part of a wider community. Helping to use my interest to inspire my pupils makes it even more worthwhile.”
Yorkley Primary School has just received the Gloucestershire Healthy Schools Award 2015-2018 reflecting the commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the whole school community.
Clubs are run every day after-school and a breakfast club starts this month. Kate will be competing in her first full marathon ‘Bristol to Bath’ at the end of the month.
