CONGRATULATIONS and thank-you to Peter Jones of Clearwell for the best letter I have read yet. Will you please, Peter, publish the five names of the so-called Cabinet, so that every person in the Forest will remember when voting comes around again, and get them voted off.

It is incredible that these five persons could totally ignore the three mayors and 7,000 signatures, but there is one detail you have overlooked – people of Coleford and shop owners who have to park all day will be paying something like £2 a day – £10 a week and nearly £500 a year!

What will the Cabinet pay plus the remainder of councillors and all other employees at Coleford council office – nothing, because they have a huge car park which will be for their use only.

What of the expression 'Let's have a level playing field'?

Another letter suggests the operating cost of setting up this parking at £163,000 a year. This could be more than collected over several years. So the revenue would be nil.

The hassle of rushing back to your car to find a parking ticket, anything from £60 to £80, has been well described. Many of you have experienced this. I did in Gloucester. Result, I have never been there since. The honesty box ideal would not work as some yob would nick the boxes in the first week.

Referring back to the select Cabinet, they are paid an additional allowance (bonus) of £6,000. What about donating that to the council? That would provide a useful £30,000.

Finally, the councillors in Tewkesbury have awarded the first hour of street parking free, so giving some thought to their shopkeepers.

So, to all Foresters, keep up the pressure and letters. Perhaps by July our Cabinet might have second thoughts and common sense.
