I SHOULD first state that I am not an employee of the Forensic Science Services, but was appalled to read in your newspaper of the proposed cut of 168 jobs at the laboratory in Chepstow.
Whilst it was stated that the cuts were announced last week, this has been in the pipeline since 2008, instigated by a government minister who has since resigned for fiddling the taxpayer over expenses. That makes good reading, doesn't it?
With the current economic instability and increase in crime in this country, it beggers belief that the present government can cut back on expenditure for the very services and technology that has brought murderers, rapists and criminals in general to the courts and then take them off our streets, and therefore make it safer for the honest, hardworking British citizen to live in this country in peace and safety.
I am sure the police authorities who rely on Forensic Science Services would back me up.
Please think again, Gordon Brown, before you put pen to paper regarding cuts at this very important department. Make the criminals think twice. – A concerned citizen (name and address supplied).
