PUPILS at Yorkley Primary School enjoyed taking part in a National Fitness Day.
Parents were also invited to start the day with an energetic ‘wake and shake’ session in the school hall which saw dance routines put to music.
During the day, yoga and taekwondo sessions were enjoyed by all classes.
Teaching assistant, Kate Fyffe said: “The children particularly enjoyed kicking the pads which were held by their teachers. We were very fortunate to have had instructors for both these activities – the yoga instructor was Caroline Rickards and the taekwondo instructors were Sarah Carne and Paula Manley. These ladies gave their time freely to help our children get maximum fun from these sessions.
“We took the opportunity to introduce a new initiative for our school – The Daily Mile. This is something that the school has adopted, and every class will be taking 15 minutes out of every school day to run or walk around the playground in a timed session. Not only will the children benefit from being outside in the fresh air but it supports classroom learning and improves children’s confidence, concentration and behaviour.”
