PROMOTION contending Monmouth Town AFC 'The Kingfishers' will sport the St David's Foundation logo on their shirts when competing in away fixtures throughout the next season.

Insead of maximising every money-making opportunity the Welsh league second division hopefuls will promote St David's on all their away kit.

The idea, seen as something of a 'radical' step came as former player and current youth coach Kevin Johnson arranged his third annual Veterans match.

Club chairman Lee Robson said: "The club knew there was more we could do to get involved in the community generally but more specifically with St David's, particularly after all the hard work Kevin and his friends have put in over the past couple of years in arranging and staging the veterans cup.

"Our first team is currently sponsored by Wye Media a local company and our youth section by Monmouthshire Housing Association. Although we are always looking for local business sponsors it seemed putting the charity on its shirts is a more high-profile way to back St David's and an effective way to engage with our supporters and also our 200 plus parents and members. All of our players, supporters and members are local and this is a big local cause,"

Chief Executive of St. David's Foundation Hospice Care, Mrs Emma Saysell, said: "This is a wonderful gesture from a very special group of people.

"We have been aware for a while of a premiership club doing something similar and only ever dreamed of being chosen locally. We believe whole heartily that this is the start of a very special relationship between ourselves and Monmouth Football Club. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved and in particular Kevin Johnson who has been a huge supporter of our work locally over the past few years.

"We would also like to encourage any other local teams to do the same and get in touch. Please call me (Emma) on 01633 271364."
