I recently walked my three dogs and as usual we went to the Linear Park and up into the woods where they had a lovely run.

On the way back I crossed Valley road and went up over the bank heading towards the green and let them off for a final run before heading home. My young lurcher, Peggy, noticed a rabbit and took chase I called to no avail. She was well and truly focused and the chase was on. She headed down into the bushes and was gone I kept calling but no response.

I then heard a bang which I thought was a car door slamming I continued calling, by this time getting extremely concerned but nothing. I had my other two dogs on the lead and headed back towards the road to see if she had got lost in her excitement.

I could not see her so assumed she had headed back up over the green looking for me. I did spot a van with two men getting in but thought nothing of it until, as I headed up the bank, they pulled up and asked if I was looking for a small grey dog. I answered 'yes' and they informed me that it was dead. They found her left in the road and stopped and put her body off the road. They had tried phoning the number on the name tag to inform me of what had happened.

I accept this was an accident and she should not have run out on to the road but how could someone leave her in the road? As mentioned above she had a name tag. The person could have rung me or attempted to.

The person must also have heard me calling her name but they did not call out to me. If these men, who I am very grateful to for the kindness they showed, had not moved her what state would she have been in when I found her?

Obviously I was in a very distressed state and had to get help to collect the body and get home.

I am both very upset and also angry for the total lack of compassion  and consideration shown towards our little dog.
