WEEKS of still nights came to a crashing close in the early hours of Tuesday when a storm hit the Forest and Wye Valley.

Amateur photographer Warren Jones captured this striking image of lightning over trees at Joy's Green, Lydbrook at 4.20am.

Warren said: "It was taken from my porch because there was too much heavy rain to risk setting up outside."

Warren previously had a picture in the final 20 of a competition run by National Geographic magazine and is studying for a degree in photography.
