I TRAVEL to work daily through the Forest of Dean from Soudley to Chepstow and I am utterly horrified at the amount of litter I observe along the roadside.

The Parkend to Blakeney road is particularly bad, especially near Wenchford, where carrier bags stuffed full of rubbish are, presumably, thrown out of vehicles.

I have noticed similar along the A48 near Stroat and near Tutshill.

I find it virtually impossible to comprehend how anybody can deem this to be acceptable behaviour.

I’m not going to insult your readers’ intelligence by listing the numerous reasons why littering is so repugnant and I would hope that even the individuals responsible for creating this mess have some small semblance of awareness on the subject.

Of course, some of the rubbish may be left by visitors or people passing through but I can’t believe that 100 per cent of it is.

Therefore, if you have littered here or anywhere else and are reading this, please search your conscience and make it your new year’s resolution to stop participating in this disgusting and selfish act.

It’s not down to the government or the council or the Forestry Commission or anybody else to pick up after you – it is down to you to dispose of your waste responsibly.
