I THOUGHT the pictures for your piece on the opening of Monmouth­shire's new livestock market were very appropriate.

The only people smiling were the county councillors who have managed to push through the closure of one of Abergavenny's prime assets and saddle the town's independent shop-keepers with competition from yet another large supermarket.  

The farmers and general public pictured at the opening looked uniformly glum. Cllr Greenland refered to it as a kick start for Abergavenny.   More like a kick in the teeth.
