WE have approximately 90 days until the EU referendum.
Are our ‘local’ newspapers to continue until then to give up copious column width to letters regarding the epidemic subject?
Personally, I like most readers’ opinions on local matters such as Coleford being ‘the demolition capital of West Gloucestershire’, ‘our authorities work for the rich’, the news of Neighbourhood Development Plans, district planning being reviewed and the occasional extension of thanks for small daily acts. Apart from the odd much edited minute on regional news, there are no other places to widely express on these local events.
Whereas, the EU topic is everywhere.
Venk Shenoi et al may have views that promote discussion but they are not new and are thoroughly debated in such places as Question Time, Radio 4 and national press – where they belong.
Indeed this is done to the point of overload.
I hope the Review will continue to give best space to local news – the very reason for its existence.
Forest and Wye subjects are tonics and treasures among the everyday onslaught of corporate and global-sized hype.
– Signed: A local lass, loving local news, Coleford.
