TWO cars were involved in a crash on a busy main road after three horses escaped onto the highway during the morning rush hour.

Drivers and police eventually caught the animals on the A48 in Lydney, near the Willows guest house, around 8am today.

A Nissan Micra collided with a parked VW Golf on the same stretch of road around the same time. No injuries were reported.

Witness Hannah Crowhurst posted on Facebook: "Three horses on the A48 who have escaped from the field and are loose on a very busy and dangerous main road.

"There’s been an accident as well and we are with the police and have managed to catch them, however they are very distressed and we do not know who they belong to."

One was a 16 hands high bay thoroughbred, another a 14.3h high spotted appaloosa and the third a bay cob about 14h high with white markings, she added.

"Please share as we are currently on the side of a very busy road with these horses and with lots of traffic and sirens."

The owners were traced and later collected the horses.
