THERE was plenty of village fun to entertain people.

There was everything from a good ol’ barbecue to face painting and stalls to music from Pillowell Training Band and horseshoe throwing.

Some 150 people turned up to support the fete at the recreation ground, which this year raised £700 for the village hall renovation fund.

Pillowell village hall chairman, Peter Dunford said: “The horseshoe throwing is an old Forest tradition that entails throwing a horseshoe around a post and it has to ‘catch’. Interestingly, the rec was dug out by hand by the freeminers during the 1921 miners’ strike and was later commissioned in 1926.

“We host the show every year and it is a lovely community event. On behalf of the village hall, I’d like to thank everybody and the team work of the Pillowenians for making it a successful day.”
