A DRIVER had a lucky escape after a vehicle rolled over and smashed into a barrier on the M50 in an early-morning crash.

And the air ambulance had to be called to another accident on the same stretch of road five days later when another car overturned trapping an occupant in the vehicle.

Fire crews from Ross-on-Wye rushed to the scene of the first accident on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 3 for Newent and Junction 4 at 4.37am on Tuesday, May 14.

The front of the vehicle was completely smashed, but the driver, who was travelling alone, didn’t require further treatment after being checked over by paramedics, emergency services said.

One lane of the motorway was closed while the carriageway was cleared and the car recovered.

The second incident, just before 6pm on Sunday, May 19, on the westbound carriageway near the A40 Travellers Rest roundabout in Ross-on-Wye, caused huge delays.

An air ambulance was called after firemen had to cut one person out of the overturned car, but was not required. Four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
