IN 1943 or 1944 the Lydbrook Home Guard organised a Grand Concert in the Memorial Hall. One of the organisers was a Mr Bill Hale, who I think lived in Upper Boat at the time. Mr Hale was my father's cousin – hence my involvement in the concert being a fairly well known boy soprano in my local area of South Wales at that time.
The admission ticket was a red coloured card, the top half of which was the "star" of the show. It said something like "BBC Singer/Songwriter" But I can't remember his name. The lower half of the ticket listed the other artists. Firstly it was me – David Harley (Welsh Boy Soprano) then Miss A. Brain (BBC Violinist) then Lac. J. McCormick (Fresh Tenor) etc.
Does anyone remember the concert and perhaps the admission ticket? I would be very obliged if anyone could help me. Whoever the "star" of the show was, I must have impressed him because he said he would write a few songs for me, and true to his word he did write two songs for me. Unfortunately I never used them and the copies were lost many years ago.
My family I can recall in Lydbrook at that time was uncle Joe Hale, auntie Cassie and auntie Eva, who were brother and sisters to Agnes who was my maternal grandmother.
