I WOULD like to bring to the attention of your readers the planning application number P1889/ 15/OUT for 29 houses on Holms Farm, close to Lydney Hospital.
I am objecting to this application on the grounds of the dangerous access next to Lydney Hospital, the inadequacy of local highway, network and the possible future of the existence of Lydney Hospital on its present site.
If this access is granted, this area would be further congested and therefore could it be a future valid reason for relocating Lydney Hospital to a different situation in the Forest.
AIthough the access to this estate will be via the upper part of Grove Road, all traffic will have to access the local highway network via the very sharp bend adjacent to Lydney Hospital.
This is already a congested corner which would be made impossible with more cars, Biffa lorries and heavy service vehicles.
This is worse during the peak hour due to drivers avoiding the Bream Road junction opposite Tesco and driving down Templeway West to the main road.
The fact that there have been few incidents at this spot is due to the local drivers being aware the situation and driving with extra care.
I notice that there are 52 allocated car spaces along with garages and other spaces which will obviously make the situation much more precarious.
At present there are ambulances and large delivery vehicles often outside the hospital, along with staff and patients (some on crutches or in wheelchairs) accessing the road to and from the outpatients department.
Ambulances have to reverse from the minor injuries department onto Grove Road near the junction with Bream Road.
More traffic in the area would obviously make this more perilous.
My other point is: how will the drivers in this area access the town?
There is a school on the Bream Road and the turning into the town is already a serious blockage point with the only other access being down Templeway West, a residential area.
If there is a particular desire to build on this site, surely there is a much better access available via Watery Lane which would access the main road beyond the council offices and would not involve a primary school and a hospital?
The closing date for obejections is Monday, February 22.
