IT was smiles all-round as Lydney’s Bathurst Park was host to the annual Easter egg hunt, crafts and Easter bonnet parade on Wednesday, April 1.
The day saw two hunts. The morning started at 10.30am and the afternoon hunt began at 12.30pm. Families enjoyed them, covering vast areas of the park. It saw them solving puzzles to find all the eggs and filling out a hunt sheet.
Tables were available from the start of the event for children to make their Easter bonnets, which could be entered into the 12pm parade.
The parade was judged by Family Minister Jane Penny, Forester Reporter Tomos Evans, and The Easter Bunny. Every participant’s hat could have won an award - but ultimately eleven children received prizes.
Cllr Tasha Saunders, Mayor of Lydney said: “It was absolutely lovely to finally hold the event outdoors for the first time in three years, after the weather forced us inside previously. The turnout was phenomenal and far beyond what we anticipated. With over 200 families joining us in the morning and at least another 100 in the afternoon.
“With many families bringing multiple children, we estimate that well over 500 children attended, which is just incredible. We’re so grateful for the support from Churches Together, Two Rivers Housing who provided free activities for the children, and of course, our fantastic Tony the Balloon Man.
“I’d also like to thank everyone who took part in the parade. The creativity on display was outstanding — the judges had an incredibly difficult job choosing winners, as every single entry was truly amazing.”
Attendees were able to enjoy a drink at the Four Seasons coffee shop or a snack from DelBoy’s van. There were also treats available, as sweets and chocolate were handed out to all who entered the hunt.
Because after all, what would Easter be like without chocolate?
