MOTORISTS travelling between the M50 near Ross and Newent and Gloucester will have to take a detour when resurfacing work closes the road for six days.

The B4221 from Kilcot to Gorsley near Ross Golf Club will be closed on weekdays from 9.30am to 3.30pm from this Thursday, May 18, to Thursday, May 25.

Patching and resurfacing work will start at Kilcot Cross where the B4221 meets the B4222, continuing through Gorsley up to the Gloucestershire boundary at Kempley Road.

A diversion route will be signposted between Kilcot and Gorsley utilising the B4222, the A40 at Lea, the B4224 Upton Bishop road, and the B4221 to the M50.

Heavy vehicles are being advised to stay on the A40 to join the M50 at Ross-on-Wye and vice versa.

Forest of Dean county councillor Will Windsor-Clive said: “This section of the B4221 connects residents to other major routes in and around the county, so I’m pleased to announce this positive investment in our local roads.

“Please bear with us while the work goes ahead: the end result will leave this section of road free of potholes and improve journey times.”

Rhodri Grey, highways manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “This work will keep a key route in good condition for drivers.

“Closure times have been planned to minimise disruption as far as possible. I would like to thank road users in advance for their patience while this goes ahead.”

The roads will still be open this weekend.
