WESTBURY'S reputation for being formidable at home was further cemented by this comfortable and impressive victory over Gloucester Civil Service.
A combative 247 off 45 overs included an explosive innings of 78 by Gary Morgan. Less spectacularly but equally important, skipper Ian Dunn contributed a splendid 68.
Together with an impressive contribution of 36 by 16 year-old opening bat James Down, Westbury's total proved well beyond the Gloucester team who were returned to the pavilion for 147 all out.
In response the Civil Service batsmen were pinned down by the accuracy of Westbury's opening bowlers, Jon Hargreaves and Scott Thomas.
"They bowled very tightly. It was wicket to wicket and Civil Service were under a lot of pressure. At one stage they were six down for 70. We picked up regular wickets with Jon Hargreaves ending up with four to his credit," said Dunn.
The Westbury skipper is delighted with his young team.
"We are probably fielding the youngest side we have had for around 30 years. There are six players aged under 22 so it augers well for the future of the club. All we need is more consistency, especially away from home.-
"Two weeks ago we scored over 300 runs, but that was exceptional. I always think that between 230 and 250 is par for the course at Westbury. It is a good total to defend," said Dunn.
He would, he said, be delighted with a top four finish.
"I believe we are comfortable and for the moment probably at our level in Division 3. We should certainly finish in middle table and, with luck, a little higher," he said.
