RESIDENTS at Broadwell's Queensway have been told "it's make your mind up time'" over a plan by Two Rivers Housing to provide extra parking facilities outside their homes.
In the wake of the grass cutting row, the housing association has offered extra parking at Queensway only to find some residents object to the plan.
Now 35 householders most closely affected by the scheme are being asked to vote. They have until Wednesday May 30 to make up their minds.
In a statement this week Two Rivers say the community had been talking for a couple of years about the idea of creating more parking. After numerous meeting and discussions they hatched a plan and obtained consent for 16 new spaces on the grass facing numbers 37 to 47 Queensway.
It was a surprise, they say, when a few residents objected to the idea.
Neighbourhood advisor Mike Baggett said the association now needed to be absolutely certain the majority were still behind the scheme.
Mr Baggott said: "The grassed area looks a mess right now with people parking all over it, churning it up and creating holes and safety hazards. It's also impossible to maintain.
"It will cost £27,000 to create the secure parking bays. It isn't just a case of chucking down a bit of concrete. These spaces will need to be properly planned, built and maintained. Maintenance of the parking bays will be managed by renting the new lockable bollard controlled spaces to Queensway residents.."
He said Two Rivers only had funds set aside for a few parking schemes each year and there was no point in going ahead unless a clear majority of residents were in favour.
He added: "But, if after thinking about it again, Queensway folk really do say 'no' then there are many other communities who will fill their shoes. It's make your mind up time."
Earlier this year a group of residents contacted the Review to express their dismay at the project. Some expressed the view that it was no more than " a money-making exercise by Two Rivers" while others were concerned that the bollards could impede emergency vehicles.
