A SCHOOL gate has been given a make-over thanks to pupils and a local blacksmith.
Staff at Soudley School had thought the gate would have to be replaced but Littledean-based blacksmith Steve Blewitt said it was Victorian and could be rescued.
Pupils at the school were set the task of coming up with a new design to adorn the gates and Steve combined several and made a plaque at his workshop.
The design features a tree growing out of a book with an owl stood on top of the pages.
The winning designs were drawn by Emily Gulliver-Brown, aged eight, and 11-year-olds Charlie Reed and Jasmine Snowden.
Steve said: "There were lots a good ideas and I combined some of them to make the piece."
