POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 31-year-old man was left with serious head injuries after an attack outside a pub.
The victim was knocked unconscious in the incident, which took place around 2.15am on Sunday (March 11) outside the Eagle Inn in Broad Street, Ross-on-Wye.
He was taken to Hereford County Hospital before being transferred to the Major Trauma Centre at Birmingham Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
A 27-year-old man from Hereford was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on conditional bail.
Detective Constable Trudi Burgess of West Mercia Police said: “The victim was assaulted and is understandably shaken up by this incident.
“The victim has received a subdural bleed and facial injuries and is currently being treated in hospital. We’re keen to talk to anybody who witnessed this incident.
"A 27-year-old man from Hereford has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and has been released on conditional bail."
The ambulance service was called at 2.19am to reports of the assault. A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "A patient had been assaulted and was unconscious. One ambulance and a community first responder attended.
"We conveyed a man in his 20s who had suffered a head injury. He had regained consciousness when we arrived on the scene. The man was immobilised before being taken to Hereford County Hospital."
