A CLIMBER was seriously injured after falling 50ft down a cliff at a Wye Valley beauty spot.

The incident involved a 56-year-old experienced climber who fell down the cliff near the 365 Steps on the Wye Valley Walk near Tintern on Sunday afternoon.

The man, from Sleaford in Lincolnshire, was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport with broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder.

The incident happened at about 2pm and traffic on the A466 Monmouth to Chepstow road was held up while the man was stretchered to a waiting ambulance.
