A 35-YEAR-OLD man will be summonsed to court after a skull-masked raider was caught on CCTV trying to burgle a sports club.

Security cameras captured an intruder trying to break into Thornwell Football Club in Chepstow with a long-handled hammer shortly after 5am on Saturday, November 25.

The masked and hooded raider was also spotted carrying a grey and blue 'biscuit selection’ canvas bag.

Neighbours of Chepstow Rugby Club reported hearing the sound of breaking glass around 4.30am the same morning.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said a 35-year-old man had attended a voluntary interview at Chepstow Police Station in connection with the attempted burglary and would be reported to appear before magistrates.
