RUNNER Ben Brookshaw, of Blakeney, is about to embark on his 12th marathon to raise money for the National Eczema Society.

Ben, 41, ran his first marathon in 2004 and has been completing at least two every year since then. This will be his fourth London marathon.

He said: "I always try to raise money for the National Eczema Society because my son suffered horribly from eczema when he was a baby.

"I have probably raised about £3,000 from family and friends over the years, but I would like to do a little better this year."

Ben has been training since Christmas although he runs regularly all year round.

"The other weekend when everyone was watching the Wyedean Rally, I was out in Forest running in the snow! It's good for your health and fitness, and is also a good way to clear your head.

"I am hoping to beat my time of three hours, 17 minutes this year," he said.

Ben runs for two and a half hours at the weekend and does four shorter mid-week training sessions, spending time swimming and in the gym.

Ben and his family moved from Chepstow a year ago to be closer to the Forest where he loves to run.

His four children, aged between 14 and 22 and his wife Pamela do not run, though Pamela spends a lot of time at the gym.
