LYDNEY man Adie Shilston is taking part in this year’s London Marathon despite having done no running at all before he discovered he had a place.

Now he is organising a charity golf day on Friday (April 7) and is looking for sponsors to help the fund-raising effort.

Adie said: “We already have 20 teams playing but we have room for more and we’re still looking for sponsors and donations towards our auction and raffle.

“I’m hoping to raise over £2,000 for local charity Forest Pulse and national charity Phab Kids, both of which support families of children with disabilities, helping children to take part in activities, and running family events.

“I started running in October, when I learned I had a place in the marathon on Sunday, April 23. I go to Lydney Park Run every Saturday and I ran Newport half-marathon recently which went really well.

“I’ve hit a wall in my training now though and couldn’t get past 17 miles at the weekend. I know I’ll do it though. I’m completely determined.”
